Head of Legal, Platforms

At Insignia Financial, we're helping more Australians achieve financial wellbeing through market-leading advice, investment and superannuation solutions. We're looking for an experienced legal leader to join our Legal team as Head of Legal – Platforms, providing strategic legal advice across our platform products and helping shape the future of our business.

Reporting to the Managing Legal Counsel – Superannuation and Platforms, you'll lead the legal strategy for our platform products, partnering closely with Executive leaders, Trustee Boards and senior stakeholders to manage legal risk while enabling innovation and commercial outcomes.

About the role

This is a highly visible leadership role with end-to-end ownership of legal matters impacting our platform products, including MLC Expand, IDPS and Managed Discretionary Accounts (MDAs).

You'll provide commercially pragmatic legal advice across the full product lifecycle, influencing strategic business decisions while ensuring our products continue to meet legal and regulatory obligations and deliver positive outcomes for members and clients.

Key responsibilities

You'll lead legal advice across a broad range of platform matters, including:

• Product design, enhancements, closures and strategic product initiatives
• Product Disclosure Statements (PDSs), Significant Event Notices (SENs), disclosure obligations and marketing communications
• Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO) and Target Market Determinations (TMDs)
• Retail insurance arrangements, insurer negotiations and administration agreements
• AFCA matters and member complaints
• Regulatory change impacting platform products
• Legal advice on incidents, breaches and governance matters
• Product funding initiatives
• Custody arrangements, omnibus accounts and investment mandates
• Negotiation of key platform and service provider agreements
• Major platform transactions, migrations and strategic projects
• Leading, developing and mentoring a team of legal professionals while building capability across the function

About you

You'll be a senior legal professional who combines exceptional technical expertise with commercial judgement and the ability to build trusted relationships across the business.

You'll bring:

• A Bachelor of Laws and current legal practising qualifications
• 10+ years' experience within financial services, with significant experience across superannuation, platforms or investments
• Deep knowledge of the Australian financial services with a focus on superannuation, investments and platforms regulatory environment
• Strong technical expertise across legal issues affecting platform products and structures
• Proven ability to influence senior executives and provide commercially focused legal advice
• Experience leading, developing and mentoring high-performing legal teams
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation
• Experience managing external legal advisers and negotiating commercial outcomes
• The ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver high-quality advice in a fast-paced, evolving environment
