The opportunity to join our team

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you'll play a key role in the ongoing evolution of a business-critical investment platform used by Australians every day.

This is an interesting role, as rather than operating within a single technology discipline, you'll work across DevOps, cloud engineering, production support, security, and technology delivery, applying your expertise wherever it can create the greatest impact. You'll help improve platform reliability, strengthen operational practices, support key delivery initiatives, drive security uplifts and contribute to system consolidation and modernisation.

For engineers who enjoy understanding how technology works end-to-end, this role is an opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of a complex technology environment while partnering with a highly capable and collaborative team.

What you will do
You will take ownership of the reliability, security and continuous improvement of a business-critical cloud-hosted platform. While strong AWS and DevOps capability is important, this role extends well beyond traditional platform engineering. You'll contribute across operational support, releases, security, modernisation and project delivery, helping ensure the platform remains resilient, secure and ready for the future.

You will:

  • Maintain, secure and improve a reliable AWS-hosted application platform
  • Participate in a weekly production support roster and help maintain high system availability
  • Investigate production issues, resolve underlying problems and identify opportunities to prevent recurrence
  • Support patching, disaster recovery, project cutovers, releases and post-implementation hypercare
  • Contribute to system consolidation through data migrations, integrations and the onboarding of funds
  • Deliver ongoing security, access control, risk and compliance improvements
  • Improve automation, release processes and the way changes move safely into production
  • Build deep knowledge of the platform and the wider technology ecosystem in which it operates
  • Contribute to future modernisation initiatives across databases, orchestration, architecture and application delivery
  • Explore practical uses of AI that improve productivity, quality, risk management or delivery outcomes

What You Bring to This Role

This role is suited to candidates who have a strong cloud and DevOps foundations with the curiosity and flexibility to work across a wider systems environment. You may have supported vendor-supplied or business-critical applications where you were responsible for almost everything around the application, including hosting, reliability, releases, integrations, security and operational improvement.

You will bring:

  • Strong experience across AWS, cloud, platform or DevOps engineering
  • Experience supporting critical production systems and taking ownership of reliability
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, automation and modern engineering practices
  • Experience investigating and resolving complex production incidents
  • Exposure to releases, system migrations, integrations and technology modernisation
  • An understanding of security controls, audit requirements, access management and technology risk
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and willingness to challenge existing approaches constructively
  • The ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and drive outcomes
  • Resilience, accountability and comfort working through ambiguity
