The Risk Manager – Super Insurance plays a key role in independently overseeing the risk profile of the Master Trust business unit, with a focus on Insurance in Super.

This role ensures robust implementation and embedment of Insignia Financial’s Risk Management Framework (including Compliance Framework). The role requires expert oversight, challenge of business activities across internal operations and Insurers, ensuring alignment with APRA standards, SIS and Corporations Act legislation, and trustee expectations. This position requires a high level of risk, compliance, and regulatory acumen in the superannuation sector, with a strong ability to engage with senior stakeholders, interpret complex regulatory requirements, and build effective controls and assurance practices. The role is instrumental in delivering better risk outcomes for Insignia Financial and its Trustees, thereby supporting better member and client outcomes.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead Risk Framework Implementation: Drive the effective implementation and adherence to the Risk Management Framework (including Compliance Framework) within the Master Trust business unit relative to Insurance in Super and Distribution.
  • Insurance in Super Risk Management: Oversee risks associated with Insurer Arrangements in line with SPS250 and other applicable standards including CPS230, ensuring effective oversight mechanisms are in place.
  • Independent Oversight & Challenge: Provide objective, independent review and challenge of risk and compliance practices across both internal operations and service providers (e.g., administrators and Insurers).
  • Assurance Activities: Plan and conduct Line 2 assurance reviews over implementation of the risk framework, internal controls and Insurer performance, including SLAs, regulatory obligations, and trustee deliverables.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assess adherence to superannuation laws (SIS / Corporations Act), APRA prudential standards, ASIC requirements, and trustee obligations.
  • Breach Assessment & Incident Oversight: Evaluate and advise on incidents and regulatory breaches, including root cause analysis, impact assessments, and appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Trustee Reporting: Support the preparation of risk and compliance reporting to the trustee board and its committees, ensuring clarity, transparency, and accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business leaders, compliance teams, service providers, and trustee representatives to foster a proactive risk culture and drive continuous improvement.

 

What you will bring: 

  • Degree qualified, 5+ years’ of experience working in a risk and compliance role, preferably with a focus on governance/risk management/compliance tasks. Prior incident management experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to superannuation funds and Insurance in Super
  • Experience working in complex businesses undergoing significant transformation
  • Ability to drive behavioural and mindset changes with key stakeholders, an ability to influence with impact
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to prepare well-articulated written documents
  • Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills
