The opportunity to join our team

With a major uplift in Advice Technology underway and a clear roadmap for the platform’s evolution, we’re looking for a Principal Engineer who can operate at both altitude and at depth. Setting engineering direction, influencing enterprise decisions, and stepping in where it matters to make complex problems move.

This role has been created to drive the strategic modernisation of core Advice Technology capabilities, bringing modern engineering thinking, best-in-class solutions and AI-enabled innovation into a platform at the centre of how we deliver advice to customers. This is deliberate, long-term platform evolution.

You’ll play a key role in evolving platform capability, lifting engineering standards and shaping how we build at scale. It’s a role that sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, with real influence across both the platform and the broader technology landscape.

What you will be doing

The role its across strategy, engineering leadership and hands-on delivery influence, shaping platform direction while staying close to the work.

• Drive the modernisation of core Advice Technology platforms, setting engineering direction and ensuring solutions are built for scale, resilience and long-term maintainability
• Define and embed engineering standards, patterns and best practices, uplifting consistency and capability as the team scales
• Lead complex technical decision-making, balancing innovation, risk and delivery while addressing technical debt and legacy challenges
• Introduce and embed modern engineering approaches, including automation, AI-enabled capability and secure-by-design principles
• Stay hands-on where it matters, solving complex problems, guiding teams through ambiguity and shaping early-stage solutions
• Influence across the enterprise, partnering with architecture, product, security and technology teams to align platform direction

What you will bring

You’re already operating at Principal level, this is about depth, breadth and influence.

• Extensive experience in software engineering, platform delivery or technical leadership within complex environments
• Proven ability to modernise business critical platforms and influence technical direction
• Strong understanding of modern engineering principles (architecture, integration, scalability, resilience, security)
• Experience working across distributed systems and API-led environments
• Ability to operate across both strategic thinking and hands-on problem solving
• Strong stakeholder influence - able to engage, challenge and align senior technical audiences
