This role will provide broad analytical support to the Alternatives team with a special focus on supporting investment execution of a high-quality portfolio of private credit and alternative assets (funds/SMAs, co-investments, and direct deals). The Analyst, Alternatives Structuring is critical in delivering high quality alternative portfolios to MLC’s end clients. This is partly by facilitating increased co-investment activity with the work on deal execution. There will also be opportunities to work on investment due diligence, client reporting and strategic projects.
MLC is part of the ASX listed Insignia Group, which has a 125-year history of providing financial solutions for clients. MLC Asset Management contains a team of 45 people responsible for investing ~A$100bn in multi-manager, multi-asset class solutions for over 1 million Australians. The MLC Alternative Strategies team consists of 4 investors responsible for managing ~A$6.5bn in strategies targeting attractive, uncorrelated returns. The majority of these assets are invested in niche private credit strategies and natural catastrophe reinsurance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Senior Manager, Investment Structuring and Execution in driving investment execution on Funds/SMAs, co-investments, and direct investments in MLCs Alternatives portfolios
- Engaging with internal and external legal counsel. By conducting comprehensive review of legal documents, summarising/highlighting key terms concerns before briefing internal external counsel. Plus, working through solutions to mitigate identified legal and tax considerations
- Analytical support for the Portfolio Managers on investment opportunities
- Reporting to internal and external clients
- Ad hoc project work supporting the commercialisation of new products
What you will bring:
- 3+ years experience in investment or legal roles, ideally in private credit or alternative
- Relevant degree or tertiary qualification
- Experience or skillset to effectively review investment agreements including private placement memorandums, limited partnership agreements, and credit agreements i.e. attention to detail, thoroughness, commercial awareness
- Able to interpret and apply regulatory and legislative requirements to investments.
- Ability to work across a wide range of tasks within the Alternatives team – investment execution, investment analysis, reporting, client communications
- Proficient in reviewing financials and due diligence materials; Excel skills for analysis
- Willingness to train under Senior Manager, Investment Structuring and Execution to learn negotiation of commercial terms with General Partners and other investment counterparties
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to engage internal and external stakeholders
