Shape the future of controls at Insignia Financial

At Insignia Financial, we’re committed to improving the retirement outcomes of millions of Australians. That means building a strong, secure foundation across every part of our business - including technology. We’re looking for a senior leader to drive the next chapter of our Technology Risk & Governance journey: automating controls, enhancing oversight, and embedding smarter ways of working.

This is a key role that offers the opportunity to design and lead a fit-for-purpose control testing program from the ground up, one that’s pragmatic, modern, and scalable. You’ll work closely with our privacy, third-party governance, and risk teams, and you’ll play a key role in strengthening our culture of risk ownership and accountability.

The opportunity to join the team

Reporting to the Group Privacy Officer & Head of Technology Governance, you’ll lead the development and execution of the Group’s technology control testing program, with a strong focus on automation, effectiveness, and value creation. You’ll be hands-on, people-focused, and able to connect the dots between systems, risk, and regulatory obligations.

This is not a “keep the lights on” type of role. It’s ideal for someone who’s ready to run their own program, back their ideas, and work collaboratively with people across the business to deliver lasting impact. Key focuses of this role include:

  • Own and uplift the tech control testing program: Map and review information assets, identify key controls, maintain control frameworks, and execute the annual testing plan.
  • Design and implement automation: Digitise and streamline controls to reduce manual effort and strengthen effectiveness.
  • Lead and coach a small team of control testers: Set priorities, review outputs, and guide their development and delivery.
  • Provide SME input across privacy, third-party governance, and first line technology risk: Support due diligence, assurance, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Represent the function in cross-functional working groups: Communicate risk and control perspectives with clarity and influence.
  • Drive continuous improvement: Uplift risk culture and capability through practical insights and proactive collaboration.

What You Bring to This Role

You’re technically sharp, commercially aware, and able to connect with people at all levels. You’ve worked in the first line of defence and understand how to build controls that are not only compliant, but meaningful and usable. You can run with a problem, bring others on the journey, and lead by doing.

What you bring:

  • Experience in technology risk, compliance, controls testing, or third-party risk - ideally in financial services or superannuation.
  • Proven track record setting up and running controls testing programs (not just auditing).
  • Awareness of AI governance principles and emerging risks, with interest in helping shape a responsible AI-enabled organisation.
  • Deep knowledge of tech environments—cloud, infrastructure, networks, databases, cyber.
  • Familiarity with APRA/ASIC regulatory frameworks (CPS 230, CPS 234, etc.).
  • Collaborative and adaptable mindset—able to influence constructively and drive better outcomes.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • CRISC certification preferred; tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, or IT required.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience supporting privacy teams or matters.
  • Solid understanding of superannuation products or services and the controls that support them.
